Abstract

This paper examines the role of travel information in the context of theme park location choice, focusing on the factors affecting the search for and use of information and the effect of information on the location choice. A total of 454 people filled and submitted the online administered questionnaire between the months of June and July 2024 out of 687, indicating about a 66% response rate.

The paper found that younger travelers usually retrieve any kind of information more than older travelers. Again, frequent visitors hardly search for information. It was however observed that previous visits to the same theme park clearly led to a diminished decision-making process among the visitors, while consideration for alternatives does lead to a deliberate choice process. Information is not only sought but finally used in the decision for a certain mode of traveling since that provides the starting point for campaign strategies and policy measures that aim to influence recreational travel behavior.

While it is necessary to influence those who consider an alternative, this should not be done through the provision of travel information but through the characteristics of the theme park. This paper therefore recommended that for travelers to enjoy the maximum benefit of the park, there is the need to spread the coming of visitors through an entrance fee policy.
