Abstract

Manufacturing firms operate in dynamic environments shaped by market changes, government regulations, public
policies, and socioeconomic developments. This study examined the relationships between these external environmental
conditions and strategic adaptability among selected firms in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. A quantitative cross-
sectional survey design was adopted, using data from 150 valid responses obtained from 163 distributed questionnaires.
Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, correlation, and multiple regression. The findings revealed that market
conditions, regulatory and policy conditions, and socioeconomic conditions were positively and significantly associated
with strategic adaptability. The study recommends that managers strengthen environmental scanning and integrate
external environmental assessments into strategic planning. The study provides context-specific evidence on external
environmental conditions and strategic adaptability in Nigeria.
