Abstract

The study focuses on the effects of digital literacy on youth employment in workplace in Etsako West Local Government Area. The population of the study includes all corps member in Etsako West Local Government Area in Edo state, Nigeria. Questionnaires were administered to 97 corps members in the local government area. Multiple regression was used to analyzed the data.

The findings shown that media literacy and digital skills do not significantly affect youth employment. While they create job opportunities, but do not invariably lead to employment in workplaces. Media literacy and digital skills are vital soft skills in today world, many young people have not been able to channel these skills in employment generation in workplaces. This provides more opportunities for young people to equip themselves with modern business and entrepreneurial skills.

The study recommends the provision of digital skills tailored toward employment generation in workplaces. In addition, the study recommends that there should be a re-orientation on use of social media; media literacy when properly acquired can boast one's chances in employment generation.
